FAQ

Who, What, When, Where

  • Magen and Kellen’s 20th Year Marriage Party and Vow Renewal.

  • Friday, December 27th, Saturday December 28th, and Sunday December 29th.

There will be structured events on all 3 days with some chill time and adventure time mixed in. The main party event begins at 4pm on Friday, but we’ll have more informal meet and greet events all day Friday. If you would like to attend those, we would suggest arriving on Kauai Thursday or early Friday morning at the latest.

  • The island of Kauai, HI.

The event on Friday night (The Rumpus Celebration) will be on the north side of the island, easily reachable from Princeville and approximately a 45-minute drive from the airport. Most of our other events will be on the north or east side of the island, weather permitting. We have backup plans in case of bad weather, which might involve traveling to the south side of the island.

  • Our friends and family! We hope to include people spanning our 20+ years together, old friends, new friends, bandmates, neighbors, whoever is game and can serve the purpose of celebration :) We hope that everyone can be open to mixing it up, making new friends, and indulge our vision!

  • Yes, children are welcome and encouraged to join our adventure! On one condition: they will have to complete a Holgate Challenge before they attend. So, make sure to RSVP with their names, and they will be sent instructions!

We anticipate that there will be many kids of varying ages at the festivities. On Friday morning, we hope to have a meet-up designed for the kids to get to know each other, reducing any initial awkwardness and allowing them to dive straight into fun and shenanigans together. We are also planning a kid's night-in (with childcare) during the adults' night out!

  • Based on feedback from our local wedding planner, we have decided not to pursue room blocks. We will be staying on the north shore during the event weekend and the days after. Princeville (on the north shore) primarily features single-family homes and condos. Airbnbs, VRBOs, and condos are your best bet, though there are plenty of hotels, especially as you head toward the south, the more resort-like areas of the island. Please note that if you stay down south during the event weekend, you will likely be driving a lot (it is over an hour's drive from the Poipu resort area to where many of the events will be).

The Poipu area on the south side of the island is the drier and sunnier side. This might be a good option for a few days if you are coming before or after the event, although it will be in high demand during the holiday season! The east side (Lihue and Kapa’a) has more affordable places to stay and is a great central spot on the island.

  • We have a tentative plan for our family until we get RSVPs and can start coordinating with everyone. We'd love to plan together with all of you!

    Our tentative plan is:

December 21-23-ish: Stay at a resort, most likely in Poipu on the south side.

December 23-27: Stay at a beachside campground with bungalows, tent sites, and a big hut for the kids. We've reserved a few extra spots if anyone wants to join this side adventure, which we're calling “Tent-mas.” Most of the campground is still available to reserve. Let us know in your RSVP if you want to camp with us for a couple of days in Kauai!

December 27-January 2: Stay at an Airbnb in Princeville.

We'll stay flexible until we know your plans. We haven't bought plane tickets yet and will probably wait until August when our plans are solid.

  • We’ll provide more concrete details as the Rumpus approaches, but plan for a mix of partying, music performances, chilling, and adventure. The weather can be unpredictable in December. Aside from the “main” events at booked venues, we’ll have a flexible schedule so we can maximize our chances of good weather.

  • Yes, it’s your life! Our family will be there from before Christmas until at least Jan. 2nd. Structured whole-group activities will only be on the 27th - 29th, but we anticipate that many folks will either come earlier or stay longer. The RSVP form has a few questions about activities you are interested in doing – we’ll coordinate with our local planners on hiking permits and other tactical items for folks that want to do activities together. We’re planning on throwing a beach NYE celebration at the Hanalei Bay beach for folks who are still around.

  • You will need to arrange for your own flights and lodging. We’d also recommend that you either rent a car or share with someone else that is. We will provide food and an open bar on Friday night, island activities on Saturday, and a parent’s night out (with babysitting!) Saturday, and other food, drink, and entertainment Saturday and Sunday.

More questions?

We are hoping that this info will provide you with enough details to book your trip or make a “go” / “no go” decision. More details will be provided as the dates get closer. Once everyone has RSVP’d, we will add a lot more information to the website, including a Kauai guide, food recommendations, and travel tips.
